There Is A Song - Concert Announcement

Starling Arts co-directors Anna and Emily muse on their latest project, There is A Song.

It is said that there is a song for everything; this is certainly something we agree with at Starling Arts. We are often moved that there is a soundtrack for the moments in our lives - big and small. Whatever is going on in the world, people raise their voices in song, or seem to know what music to listen to to guide them forwards. Take births, weddings, funerals and celebrations - there’s always a song playing to mark the moment.

When we reflect back on the first lockdown in 2020, one of our most vivid (and emotional!) recollections is of not being able to create music together. Whilst people still sang alone (you may recall the arias belted out from Italian balconies, or the umpteen virtual choir creations!), we longed to be part of something both communal and live once more. It wasn’t until the summer when things started to tentatively open up that we heard other voices and live instruments again. And for us, this was like hearing music for the very first time.

This inspired us to write our latest choir piece ‘There Is A Song’. It’s a reflection on the power of music to underscore, punctuate and colour our lives. In it, we sing of the way music accompanies us through the very best and worst of times. It celebrates the joy, relief and comfort songs provide.

There Is A Song - live in concert

‘There is A Song’ will be performed at our concert of the same name on Sunday 4th December at 3pm.

Performed by members of the Starling Voices North and South - our London based singing groups - there will also be special appearances by the Starling Arts carol singers and Flock, our alumni choir.

As there is a song for everything, we hope our setlist will speak to different moments and emotions in all our lives. The concert is set to be an afternoon packed with cosy feel-good numbers and joyful harmony. The venue will be the glorious St Gabriel’s Church in Pimlico, where we return for this one-off performance.

Tickets are on sale now! Gain exclusive discounts and VIP seating through our Fan Club (sign up and we will send you a discount code). There is also 10% off for those booking before Saturday 1st October with our discount code EARLYBIRD10. Families are very welcome to attend.
