On Wednesday July 19th, we hosted our Summer Cabaret evening at one of our favourite venues, The Phoenix, Cavendish Square. Filled with energetic performances from our choirs and smaller groups and soloists from within the Starling family, the event was a great success!

/Starling co-directors Anna and Emily recently had the incredible opportunity to speak at TEDx Square Mile. Having been invited to speak (and sing!) about their work bringing people together through group singing, they didn’t need to look much further than the inspiring Starling Arts community to find life-changing stories to share.
In their talk titled ‘Why the World Needs to Sing’, they spoke about why singing with others - in communities, businesses or choirs - can be a hugely transformative experience. To bring their message to life, they had the crowd up on their feet and singing in three part harmony.

/Telling stories is one particularly powerful purpose of music and theatre. Stories from the past - from our history - offer a particularly pertinent use of the arts, a way of examining what's come before us, where we've come from and how this might affect the world as we currently experience it.
When a talented team of writers approached us asking if we would workshop a new piece of music theatre for the amateur and youth market, we jumped at the chance, particularly when we heard the premise; with music by Jen Green (who has been seen playing piano with Starling Arts for over three years) book by Caroline Wigmore and lyrics from Blanche Girouard, Surplus Women is a show exploring a seminal but rarely talked about period of British history.
